Somalia: Al-Shabaab seizes GoofGaduud town of Bay region

30 Oct 2016 (SofoNews) – Heavy fighting between al-Shabaab and Southwest state troops broke out in broke out in Goofgaduud settlement, 20 km southwest of Baidoa town Somalia focus reports.

The fighting have erupted when fighters from the militant group has launched a heavy assault on Goofgaduud on Saturday night.

According to residents in the town, the group has raided an army base before they seized the control of the town.

The clash which lasted for hours on Saturday night forced the SouthWest State forces to run away and re-group themselves but the small town near Baidoa remains under the control of al-Shabaab.
