4 April 2017 (SofoNews) – Al-shabaab fighters took the control of El-Buur district in Galgaduud region after Ethiopian troops withdrew on Monday, Somaliafocus reports.
Authorities told the media that Ethiopian troops have left the district without informing them and because of that the al-Qaida associated group immediately seized the district.
A number of civilians, who might be in danger for having cooperations left the district as the troops drove all their military vehicles including some 100 tankers.
Reports say, the national forces of Somalia also withdrew their bases in El-Buur areas as soon as Al-shabaab fighters entered.
Ethiopian army who is part of AMISOM, a peace keeping mission backed by UN have been controlling this strategic district since 2014, and their shocking withdrawal will boost the morale of al-Shabaab.
