8 April 2017 (SofoNews) – A court in Hargeisa of Somaliland has sentenced a journalist to two years in prison after he was accused of supporting the government of Somalia in Mogadishu.
Abdimalik Coldoon, an outspoken journalist who traveled to Mogadishu during the election of new president was charged because of his public engagement, spreading false news and disturbing the public (Somaliland) interest.
The decision was made by a regional court in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland on Saturday.
Following the verdict of the court, the family of sentenced journalist said that they will submit their appeal to the court.
The self-claimed republic of Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 when Siad barre regime bombarded many grounds in northern regions of Somalia.
