SPEECH ONE
On the opening of the New terminal of Aden Adde Airport
President Erdogan
First Lady Erdogan
Excellencies
Colleagues of the Federal Government of Somalia
Distinguished guests
Ladies and gentlemen:

It is my very great pleasure to welcome President Erdogan to the new terminal of Aden Adde International airport

Two years ago the arrival of the first Turkish Airlines’ passenger jets in the skies above Mogadishu signalled a new era for Somalia. No longer was Somalia an inaccessible, mysterious, dangerous country that no one would consider travelling too, for it was now included on Turkish Airline’s flight list. Today, the arrival of the red and white fleet is a daily reminder of Somalia’s growing stability and confidence, and of Turkey’s generous support.
People say that first impressions are important! I think that today we would agree that the new terminal makes a great impression. This is about much more than just a new building or more planes: this is about opportunity. The opportunity for connection, which creates opportunities for commerce, for trade, for discussion, for tourism, for cultural exchange.
This magnificent new building is testament to the strength of the friendship between Turkey and Somalia. We are deeply grateful for the ongoing and generous support of President Erdogan, the Turkish Government and the people of Turkey.
Just as Turkey has become a growing hub for tourism, for business and diplomacy, we hold those same dreams true for Somalia. We are opening our doors to the world and we hope the doors of the world will open to us.
Thank you very much.

SPEECH TWO:
On the opening of the new Somalia-Turkey Education and Research Hospital

President Erdogan
First Lady Erdogan
Excellencies
Colleagues of the Federal Government of Somalia
Distinguished guests
Ladies and gentlemen:

It is my very great pleasure to welcome President Erdogan to the new Somalia-Turkey Education and Research Hospital.

Turkey has been heavily involved in health infrastructure and training initiatives in Somalia. Since 2012, with Turkish Government support and in conjunction with the Red Crescent and Doctors’ Worldwide, The Digfer Hospital, the Deva Hospital and the Shifa Hospital have been either re-constructed or supported to operate – servicing the daily health needs of Somali citizens.

Today, with the opening of the new Somalia-Turkey Education and Research Hospital, Turkey is supporting Somalia not only offer improved health services to Somalis, but also to train the next generation of Somali health workers. This will ensure that much needed capacity can be deployed to hospitals across Somalia, ensure that we begin to build a national quality approach to providing health care.

As the name suggests, the new Somalia-Turkey Education and Research Hospital will also support research activities, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and increasing domestic laboratory capacity.
Health is a basic human right and an urgent priority in Somalia.

I sincerely thank President Erdogan, the Turkish Government and the people of Turkey for recognising that and demonstrating – so tangibly- their commitment to the peace and prosperity of our nation.

çokteşekkürederim! (Thank you very much)

SPEECH THREE:
Joint press conference with President Erdogan

President Erdogan
First Lady Erdogan
Excellencies
Colleagues of the Federal Government of Somalia
Distinguished guests
Ladies and gentlemen:

I have already said this many times today- but I have no difficulty to say it again: it has been a great pleasure to host President Erdogan, First Lady Erdogan and other members of his team today in Mogadishu.

I know the visit has been brief and localised to Mogadishu. I hope next time we will be able to enjoy more time together, perhaps visit one of our beautiful beaches and enjoy some wonderful Somali fish together…I hear we have many things in common with Turkey’s famous coastline!

The friendship between Turkey and Somalia is long – beginning in the 16th century with ties between the Ottoman Empire and the Adel Sultanate.
More recently, Turkey has been fearless in her commitment to supporting Somali-led development in Somalia. Turkey has not waited for the conditions to be right to wait to invest, their investment has instead helped create the right conditions for stability and growth. The friendship and support Turkey has shown towards Somalia is something that will be forever cherished.

Turkey, in partnership with the Federal Government of Somalia, has launched various development and infrastructure projects in Somalia, ranging from health and sanitation projects, including the construction of numerous hospitals, to the construction of roads and buildings, and the rehabilitation of Aden Adde International Airport. Places of worship have also been restored, and many Somalis are currently being educated in Turkey.

Today has been a very busy day; a day to visit just two of the long list of development projects supported by Turkey and to proudly open a new hospital and, of course, the wonderful new terminal of Aden Adde International Airport.

Our bilateral discussions concentrated on the increasing dialogue and cooperation between Somalia and Turkey regarding economic, social and security issues. New development agreements were signed focusing on elements of military and security cooperation, youth and sports initiatives, marine transportation, police support and cooperation between Turkish National Radio TRT and Somali National TV.

On behalf of Somalia, I thank Turkey for her ongoing development assistance in support of economic, military, social, infrastructure partnership and humanitarian aid initiatives. The Somalia people are grateful for Turkey’s friendship throughout the years and we look forward to strengthened ties between our countries.

Thank you
